Skye Goodfellow
Skye Goodfellow the angel bear is my personal mascot. He represents me in my posts, and lends a little bit of visual interest to an otherwise bland blog.
Not that I would write a bland blog. If anything, I’m quite the humorist, if you’ve read any of my regular posts.
I love the character. I even have a costume version of Skye, though the costume is kinda showing its age these days. I’m happy to say that I’ve given this costume a better pair of wings, made from materials bought from the local Dollar Tree.
The make-believe world traveler
Sometimes I’ll put in a comic featuring him, or a small commentary cartoon, or maybe even use him in several blog entries as a tour guide on make-believe visits to various places around the world I could never afford to go myself. I have found that there are enough resources on the World Wide Web, aerial photos, photos taken by tourists on Flickr, travelogue sites, videos on YouTube, among other things, to pull off a fairly accurate travelogue in the posts of my blog. Actually being there is not necessary.
It’s great! Who better than somebody with the power of unlimited travel, who doesn’t have to worry about costs, who isn’t limited to the contents of an automobile’s gasoline tank, to tell you what all is out there?
Here is where I would solicit your help. If near by where you live, is a rather neglected old tourist trap that you would like my readers to know more about, tell me about it. Profusely! Spare no detail. Show me where I can find photos, especially photos where I might be able to digitally drop a drawing of Skye, as though he actually visited the place. That’s the whole idea. He’s a traveler. That big pair of wings on his back ought to take him places.
New header image every month
The greatest thing about the “Ocean Mist” theme by Ed Merritt is that I can upload a brand new header image anytime I want to, and that, too keeps this blog quite interesting, and that is also where I like to use my mascot Skye. general.
GOOD NEWS! Now on Second Life!
In case you haven’t read my recent ranting and raving about the famed metaverse Second Life, I’ll have you know that Skye Goodfellow now appears as an avatar there, under the name Skye Vanistok. That last name was not my idea. When I signed up for SL, they let me write my first name into a field, but they made me choose my last name from a drop-down menu. I chose Vanistok and now I’m stuck with it. That’s the official name of the SL account.
I’ve made more than the most of my little month there, and constructed a passable, recognizable version of Skye there (I’ve even learned to roller skate with the avatar), and some of my favorite haunts there is the treehouse club Luskwood and Caledon Oxford University, where I regularly converse with my good friend Professor Baloo Uriza. If you’re ever there, be sure to look me up.
Hello, Angel Bear! You know, I really was wondering what you meant by you hang with a crowd that routinely dresses in expensive animal costumes. So I came over here to see if I could discover what you were referring to! Alas, though, I still have no idea. But … so … is it a secret? Do you belong to a secret society of animal imitators?
Anyway, it all sounds like good fun. And I like your angel bear drawings (they’re yours, yes?) very much.
It’s been fun looking around your blog!

No, it’s not secret. When it shows up for the big convention in Pittsburgh, PA usually about the second weekend in July, it usually makes big headlines. Usually for being the world’s cutest, most huggable economic stimulus package.
I usually help out at a smaller convention called Morphicon in northern Columbus, which does a better job of flying under the media radar. I think I’ve written about it the last week of May.
