Inspired by the political ads urging Ohio voters to “Vote No on Issue 5” because it’s the “job-killing issue”, I wrote a parody song based on “A Sucker Born Every Minute” from the broadway musical Barnum.
There’s a sucker born every minute
I tell them jobs are threatened, nothing more
Like lemmings they walk through the door
Go to the booth and step inside
And ’cause I fed them bonafide
Baloney, with no truth in it
You can bet they’ll put their check mark next to NO
Yes there’s a sure as shootin’ sucker born a minute
And they’ll gladly let me cart away their dough
I’d write another verse, but political attack ads don’t last that long.
A “NO” vote on Issue 5 will strike down a new law putting a 28% cap on the interest payday lenders can charge on their little two week loans, allowing them to continue charging as much as 391%. If it “fails”, it will truly be because there’s a sucker born every minute, and Ohio has received more than its share.
